Hard to believe that my baby turns FIVE in a month! And even harder to believe that I have to whip up the perfect kids' party, per her rigid specifications, in less than a month.
For example, Mari's insisting on a FIVE tier cake, to top last year's three tier monstrosity. "Mommy, I have a LOT of friends, so I am going to need FIVE (holds up fingers) tiers." Last year's cake took me days to make and all night to finish the tiny details. This year I would like to sleep at least an hour the night before the party, so I may be making four of those tiers out of styrofoam. Not to mention I could hardly carry last year's cake it was so heavy. I haven't gotten THAT much stronger in a year.
Marielle's also given me many instructions including:
1) Party at our house. (Easier in many ways, definitely cheaper, but what's this cleaning up nonsense?)
2) Kids only. OK, well she finally decided some grownups can come but they have to stay away from the kids. (I was going to strongly encourage a "drop off" party until I realized that all her friends moms are my friends. Somebody's gotta hold my drink while I light the candles.)
3) Invite list - 54 children. (Clearly she is being forced to edit that.)
In addition, like a wedding-gone-wrong we will be having multiple parties.
1) Party at school
2) Party at home for kids
3) Family party in VA
4) Family party in KS
Maybe I really do need all five tiers.
I was planning on recycling many of last year's decorations when she suddenly switched from a princess theme to something much more palatable. I will do 100x more work if it means a party without princesses. Even better, she picked a theme that is actually age appropriate. I'll enjoy it while it lasts!
