Last Spring I purchased two barrettes at the local toy store to match Mari's Easter dress. I didn't see a price but figured based on their quality and simple design they would be a couple of dollars each. I was shocked to see the total - the 2 barrettes cost more than the dress! I had to go rummage through the spare change in my car to pay for them. She hated wearing them, pulled them out immediately and they were lost forever.
I was convinced I could replicate them with some tools from the craft store. Wrong! They may have looked simple but they were not simple to make. More money down the drain.
Parent Bloggers Network recently offered a chance to review non-slip barrettes by Maiden America and I jumped at the opportunity. The hardest part was picking out which ones I wanted. I probably spent 3 hours on the site looking at all the colors and options.
My favorite except for maybe my other favorite.
I was a little scared by the pearls and crystals, thinking she would pull them right off and pop them right in her mouth. I ordered some anyway and after many attempts was unable to get one to come unglued. No need to worry; they are not coming off.

The biggest problem we have with barrettes is Marielle's obsession with pulling on them, and then promptly throwing them on the ground never to be seen again. These really are non-slip barrettes and will not budge. Instead she will just keep pulling and pulling and I'm pretty sure she would pull out all her hair before getting the barrette loose. It's only a problem if she happens to touch her head and realize it's in. If I can distract her or sneak up behind her and pop it in, it's going to stay in all day. You only need to grab the tiniest bit of hair and it's in for good.
Maiden America barrettes really are made in America with non-toxic glues by moms who understand that you don't want to spend your day in the ER x-raying pearls in your baby's belly. They offer a wide variety of designs and sizes in a million colors. They even offer a barrette of the month club. What a great gift for a mom child - an affordable, beautiful surprise in the mailbox once a month. It's too bad Marielle has such a hat fetish lately because these really are the world's cutest barrettes.

World's cutest barrette on the cutest baby (little girl) in the UNIVERSE!
I'm so glad you are realizing your latent desire to play with dolls. You were just waiting for the real thing, weren't you. Enjoy! (Just don't lose her in the grocery store like you did the only doll you ever really loved as a kid).
Thank you for your review! I love that you really checked out the quality - you wouldn't believe the extra work that goes into these because we don't use toxic (instant bond) glues - so it's nice to know that's not missed in the testing of our products :-). I tell moms - it's not that they CAN'T pull them out...it's just...Pavlov had a theory! Plus, as a mom to three girls, I see this as safety+ - if you were driving down a lonely road and your little one had ANY small item in her hair and managed to get it out and put it in her mouth, wouldn't you want to at least HEAR about it? I would! Anyway - thank you so much for testing our product and writing such a nice review!
